Simple Past Tense

v Definition of the simple past tense
The simple past tense, sometimes called the preterite, is used to talk about a completed action in a time before now. The simple past is the basic form of past tense in English. The time of the action can be in the recent past or the distant past and action duration is not important.
You always use the simple past when you say when something happened, so it is associated with certain past time expression

frequency: often, sometimes, always I sometimes walked home at lunchtime
I often brought my lunch to school

§  a definite point in time: last week, when I was a child, yesterday, six weeks ago
We saw a good film last week
Yesterday, I arrived in Geneva.
She finished her work at seven o'clock

§  an indefinite point in time: the other day, ages ago, a long time ago
People lived in caves a long time ago.
She played the piano when she was a child.
Note: the word ago is a useful way of expressing the distance into the past. It is placed after the period of time: a week ago, three years ago, a minute ago.

Conversation

Irfan : Hi Selly, I heard that you ‘re sick, is it right?
Selly : Yes, I’m having a bad day. I got the flu and lately I continue to be in the house to take a rest.
Irfan : Have you meet a doctor?
Selly : Of course. 6 days ago I went to the doctor.
Irfan : Are you okay now? Are you feeling better?
Selly : After I met the doctor, my health changed to be better. However, yesterday my health was getting bad again.
Irfan : Why is that so?
Selly : I decided to go with my friends, and when I came home, I feel a bad body condition.
Irfan : I think that was the wrong decision.
Selly : I actually already knew that I was not allowed to go outside before I was completely healed. But I really wanted to go.
Irfan : Yes, but that is a natural thing. I will think so if I am sick for many days. I do not want to continue to be at home and I want go outside.
Selly : I agree with you. Being in the house for a long time is not really good.
Irfan : I think you should continue to take a rest and eat foods that are high in vitamin.
Selly : What should I take to get well soon?
Irfan : Consume vegetable soup. I also suggest that you should consume milk and yogurt in order to increase the level of your immune system.
Selly : Can you mention what foods should I eat? I mean specifically mentioned.
Irfan : I have read duniafitnes.com and they recommend the Mineral Water, Green Tea, Chicken Soup, Vegetable Juice, Garlic, Banana, Ginger, and Orange Juice.
Selly : OK, thank you Irfan. I will abide by your advice.
